How this tool works
Inputs, units and where to find them
| Input | Unit | Typical source |
|---|---|---|
| Pressure or stress value | The number exactly as written on the drawing, data sheet or quote. | |
| Unit of the entered value | choice | The unit printed beside the value; check prefixes such as k, M and m. |
What each input means
Open an input to see what it is, its units, the worked example and the common mistakes, with a small diagram.
What this means: Pressure or stress value
- What it is
- The pressure or stress you want to convert, exactly as written on the gauge, drawing, data sheet or quote.
- Units and format
- Enter a plain number with no unit. Negative values are accepted. Required: the tool does not calculate until every input is valid.
- Example
- The form opens with 100 as a worked example. It is an illustration, not a recommended value: replace it with your own figure.
- Get it right
- Converting units does not change gauge pressure to absolute pressure; keep track of which one the source gives.
What this means: Unit of the entered value
- What it is
- The unit the pressure or stress was given in. The tool converts from this unit to every other listed pressure unit.
- Units and format
- Choose one of 13 options from the list: Pa; kPa; MPa (N/mm²); GPa; bar; mbar; psi; ksi; standard atmosphere; kgf/cm²; mmHg; inHg (32 °F); inH₂O (4 °C).
- Example
- The form opens with “psi” selected as a worked example. Choose the option that matches your case.
- Get it right
- MPa and N/mm² are the same unit; check prefixes such as k, M and G carefully.
Method and formulas
- Value in Pa = entered value × factor of the entered unit.
- Value in each other unit = SI value ÷ that unit’s factor.
- Factors used (1 unit = … Pa): kPa 1000; MPa (N/mm²) 1000000; GPa 1000000000; bar 100000; mbar 100; psi 6894.7572931684; ksi 6894757.2931684; standard atmosphere 101325; kgf/cm² 98066.5; mmHg 133.322387415; inHg (32 °F) 3386.388640341; inH₂O (4 °C) 249.08891.
- Example: 100 psi = 689,475.73 Pa.
Limitations
- Displayed values are rounded to eight decimal places; small values use significant figures.
- Gauge and absolute pressures differ by atmospheric pressure; this converter does not change the reference.
- Example values are illustrations. Replace them with values for your actual task.
Typical uses
- Convert pressure or stress values on drawings, data sheets and quotes
- Check supplier data given in other units
Who it is for
- Engineers
- Technicians
- Buyers and estimators
What you get
- The pressure or stress in each listed unit
- Value in Pa
Interpreting the result
- Use the unit your specification is written in, and keep the original value on record.

What a processing plasma is
In Plasma Surface Engineering by the Numbers
What it covers: What a low-pressure processing plasma is: how few of its atoms are ionised, why its electrons are hot while its gas is not, and how density, Debye length and mean free path describe it.

Leak rates, units and specifications
In Production Leak Testing by the Numbers
What it covers: What a leak rate measures, the pressure–volume, volume and mass units it is stated in and how to convert them, how big real leaks are, and how to turn a product's function into a leak specification.

Pressure, vacuum and how much gas is left
What it covers: Absolute and gauge pressure, pascals, millibar and torr, the ideal gas law at the molecular scale, how much gas VC-200 holds at 200 Pa, the force on its door, and a vacuum specified in gauge units.
